This is our second OPTIKA magazine that we published in May 2019. We made a few changes to adopt a proper zine culture. This one follows the BEAK STRUCTURE and gives you varied pleasures of reading it. Initially it's born as a double sided A2 print. Through clever folding and placing a centre cut it's now a cute A5 sized zine with 16 pages. Out of which you enjoy 8 pages in a traditional magazine form and once unfolded the other 8 pages give you a kinda newsprint experience.
We printed this in London on a Heidelberg Speedmaster XL75 Litho and used 120 gsm uncoated paper. Really looks and feels good. We hope you agree that priced at £ 1.50 it doesn't cost the world but awards a little the time and love we put in it. All proceeds go back to the Ginnel Foto Fest.
OPTIKA #2 celebrates the works of 12 international photographers following the theme "IN REPEAT" for the 2019 Ginnel Foto Fest which took place in May 2019, followed by a month long exhibition in the Frameworkshop & Gallery in Ipswich.
Nana Varveropoulou, Jean-Francois Frelin, Stefan Musgrove, Charlotte Cawdry, Elena Helfrecht, Kamil Sleszynski, Charlotte Bond, Kathy Anne Lim, Adam Razvi, Katie Hayward, Naomi Lofkin and Emma Noone. each artist is represented with an image or more plus a short text about their work. Additionally we created for each a QR code the will lead you to the artist's own web presence.
The 2019 Ginnel Foto Award went to Elena Helfrecht for her ongoing project PLEXUS.
They were joined by Aldebaran Solares from Mexico who was the 2018 award winner for his series entitled UMBRAL. Of course we has again a bit of critical text added, this time we have to thank Dr Sean O"Dell from University Centre Colchester for his contributuon.
Please keep a look out for our other items as we build the shop. There will be a few Optika #1 magazines and a special Ginnel support package available soon.
